Is it necessary to carry out occupational health and safety (OHS) training?

According to national statistics, in 2016, there were 7,981 occupational accidents happening to 8,251 victims and leading to the pitiful deaths of 862 people, causing damage to properties up to 7.8 billion VND. In which, construction was the field that the most occupational accidents happened, making up 23.8% of total accidents and 24.5% of total deaths. The main causes of occupational accidents may derive from employers or employees. On the part of the employers, the main reason of that is they did not set up procedures or measures for safety working or they did not carry out sufficient occupational health and safety (OHS) training for the employees. On the other hand, many employees who got accidents violated OHS regulations or did not equip sufficient personal protection equipment. Therefore, it can be seen that training for both employers and employees to understand the significant role of keeping OSH is extremely important to avoid the unexpected damages to people and properties mentioned above.

With the aim of creating a safe workplace as well as to respond to the first OSH Action Month in 2017 with the theme “Promotion of OSH to prevent occupational accidents and occupational diseases”, Kizuna has coordinated with Can Giuoc Vocational School to organize OSH training program for staffs and workers in Kizuna area. Understanding the necessity and practical benefits of the program, many enterprises in the area have actively coordinated so that both managers and employees can participate and be supplemented knowledge about OSH with the total number of almost 300 participants.

Through the training course, managers and employees of the enterprises have known more necessary information on regulations of the law as well as knowledge of labor safety techniques, occupational health and labor protection. As a result, it will raise awareness and change behaviors of the employees in ensuring the safety of their lives and protecting their health, which also contributes directly to the protection and development of the labor force, quality of products for the enterprises, improvement of working conditions and environment, prevention and limitation of occupational accidents. At the same time, they also know some first aid methods when occupational accidents happen.
