[ECONOMY] 2016 First Half Year FDI Attracting Updates

First half year of 2016, total registered FDI capital had increased more than 11 billion USD, around 105.4% more than the same period last 2015.

According to the statistics of FDI from the relevant authorities, up to 20th June 2016, there were more than 1145 projects got approved and issued Investment Registration Certificates with total investing capital reached around 7.5 billion USD, increased 95.3% comparing to the same period last 2015. Besides, there were 535 projects registered to increase their capital with total adjusted capital up to 3.8 billion USD, increased 129% more than same period last 2015.

Most of new projects were invested in manufacturing and processing industries with 488 new projects in total and 405 projects registered to adjust investing capital making the total new and adjusted investing capital increased more than 8 billion USA in total.

In first half year of 2016, there were total 61 countries and areas invested in Vietnam. And Korea was the number one country with total registered investing capital recorded around 4 billion USD taken 35.37% of total investing capital in Vietnam. Japanese took the second rank with total investing capital recorded about 1.23 billion taken 10.8% of total investing capital in Vietnam. Singapore was the third rank with total investing capital recorded 1.13 billion USD taken 10% of total investing capital in Vietnam.

Some of giant FDI projects got approval in first half 2016 are as below:

LG Display – HAI PHONG, IRC issued in 15th April 2016, total registered capital 1.5 billion USD, invested by LG Display Co., Ltd. (Korea), to manufacture and process products of plastic OLED displays for mobile devices such as cellphone, smart watch, tablet, etc.

Samsung Research & Development Center – HA NOI, total registered capital 300 million USD, invested by Samsung Electronics Vietnam Co., Ltd, to operate research and development activities of electrical products, electronic products and high-tech telecommunication products.

Korea Wind Power Plant – TRA VINH (second phase), total registered capital 247.6 million USD, invested by Korean Investor, to produce electricity from wind power to support national gird.

Midtown – HO CHI MINH CITY, total registered capital 225.62 million USD, invested by Cayman Islands, to develop real estate in Ho Chi Minh City.

Ocean Paper – TIEN GIANG, total registered capital 220 million USD, invested by Taiwan Investor, to produce various kinds of paper such as Duplex paper, Kcraf paper, household paper, etc.a
